Design leadership, strategy, and collaboration by Ahmad Alim Akhsan.

2022–2024 Design leadership
Mentored 10+ designers and built the systems behind them

Not a single project, but the through-line across my work: how I lead, set direction, and help a team move together.

Shipping products is great. What I find even more rewarding is helping others grow.
Leadership and collaboration: workshops, a mentoring season, talks, and team chats
Two years of it: service-design workshops, a mentoring season, talks, and helping a team move together.
Leadership

Helping designers grow, on my team and beyond it. 10+ mentored across Bukalapak and ADPList.

  • Mentoring junior product designers at Bukalapak and on ADPList, plus student teams for GEMASTIK 2018 and Google Design Sprint courses.
  • Sharing the craft: workshops on Figma prototyping with variables and service blueprints, a framework for the design process, and curated UX laws.
  • Speaking and writing: Bukalapak Roundup 7, the Telkomsel UI/UX Clinic, and Medium.
Strategy

Turning business strategy into roadmaps a team can build, through facilitation rather than decree.

  • Translating business strategy into product roadmaps.
  • Customer journey mapping, and service blueprints across apps and operations.
  • Presenting design with an evidence-based framework.
  • Leading the USP workshop for the SmartSari expansion.
  • Improving product clarity with action-based mapping.
Collaboration

Building the systems that let a team move together, not just my own screens.

  • One design system unifying 19+ products for consistency.
  • Modular design templates that sped delivery up to seven times.
  • Figma as a single source of truth, so every squad works from the latest design.
  • Migrated 60+ designers onto Figma, a shift notable enough that Figma's CEO came to Indonesia, and I shared the stage with him.
  • Onboarding guidelines for Mitra Bukalapak, reused across 9+ projects.
  • Async design reviews built to close, not just broadcast: video walkthroughs that lower the cost of feedback, a clear deadline, and a named decision-maker, so every thread ends in a decision. One-page docs keep it visible.
What people say

Mas Alim gave great direction for Onstock's designer to take our lo-fi concept to hi-fi. His communication and attention to detail in stakeholder discussions was a great help during the project.

Gilbert Tjia, Product Manager at Bukalapak

Alim is definitely fun to work with. He catches interesting edge cases and gives his opinions exquisitely. Looking forward to working with you again!

Jennifer Efendi, Product Manager at Onstock

His initiative is very high, so it always inspires me to give my best. It's great to translate research insights into recommendations together, and come up with solutions.

Daniya Rachmadiani, Sr. UX Researcher at Bukalapak

Alim can make decisions in the absence of information. With many moving parts in the Philippines project and no dedicated PM, he kept things moving and even refined requirements and flows that weren't defined yet.

Agustinus Benyamin Prasetyo, Head of Product at Bukalapak
